How We Got StartedI grew up on a dairy farm where we seemed to have
every type of livestock except sheep. My grandfather was a shepherd
when I was very young and my mother often spoke of caring for and showing
lambs. I'd always wanted a few sheep, so when I purchased this farm
and the horse & pony breeding program was established, I decided I was
ready to buy my first sheep.
I did a lot of research before I decided that Babydolls was the right
breed for me. Among the reasons that I chose this breed are:
- docile, even friendly, attitude
- do not challenge fences
- not typically destructive to trees and property
- more resistant to hoof rot & parasites than most breeds
- high rate of multiple births with minimal birthing problems
- a "naturally" miniature breed without the problems of man-made
miniature animals
- easy to care for
- naturally polled
- highly marketable

2005 Ram Lamb - "Quincy" |
I have not been disappointed in my decision. I did not want to risk a
lot of money, so I started with only one adult breeding pair and a
few young lambs. The lambs needed time to mature before they could
be bred, but the single adult pair quickly paid for themselves and have
made almost
enough
to pay for care costs of the entire flock. The lambs I purchased are
now mature and had their first lambs this Spring - all twins. By May
of 2008, our sheep program was operating in the black.
Please enjoy our website. I have been involved with livestock my entire life, but I am
still learning about sheep. If you
are new to sheep and interested in this breed as pets, for wool, or for a
breeding program, I am happy to answer any questions that I can and to share with you all
of those "if I had it to do all over again" tips. More information
about this breed will be posted soon.
